The Evergreen Freedom Foundation‘s CEO, Lynn Harsh, will be on Glenn Beck‘s show on Fox News Channel at 5 p.m.

The topic of the interview will focus on The Story of Stuff, an animated piece by Annie Leonard that trashes the free-market system in favor of a more socialistic, communistic system. The cartoon is specifically aimed at children.

Now, I’m watching this as I type, and so far it’s proving quite…interesting. Just follow the bouncing time stamps.

(3:17), she talks about the good government that is controlled by the evil corporations. Extraction is a word that really means “trashing the planet.” We cut down all the trees (and re-plant them), we blow up the mountains (I still see mountains wherever I go), and we kill wildlife (we literally have hordes of deer where I live alone).

You know, she says we’re trashing the planet so fast that we’re making it difficult to live. This is the same cry that went up 40 years ago. It seems that it’s a lot better to me. I’m not presenting what I’m saying as hard stats; you can look those up on your own. I’m simply taking what she says and refuting it based on simple observations and I can tell you at least locally things have gotten better. The local power plant has new smoke stacks that have improved the air here. The valleys here that used to be makeshift dumps are pristine. You can even swim in the Ohio River now. How can it be so bad if it’s so good?

We have less than 4 percent of our original forests left? Could that be because we’ve planted new trees. What constitutes an original forest? Trees that were old enough to remember the Civil War?

(4:49) We’re making toxic, contaminated products?! I just touched one of these products (my keyboard)! Oh no!

(9:32) I guess I didn’t pay for the HP Slimline desktop computer. The poor people of the world did. I recall money coming out of my wallet. I guess I was just mistaken.

Ok, I’ve got a life, so you can just go watch the video. The point is consumption of goods is bad because you’re killing the same kids that Sally Struthers has been trying to feed for years. This is pretty common philosophy from the left, but they never seem to take the lead. They want government to mandate all of these changes, but they never seem willing to make these changes they’re calling for themselves.

Take Annie Leonard for example. She is chastising us for the items we buy, the waste we produce, the resources we destroy. She does all of this while wearing your basic pair of jeans, t-shirt, and button-up shirt, all of which can be bought at major retail outlets. She has make-up on, made from the same toxic, contaminated products she cries out against.

You want these type of things, then try them yourself first. Scientifically it makes sense to try a few controlled experiments to see if the theories work, so try it yourself. Make your own clothes, get rid of your electronics, heat your home with dung, etc.

When you come crying back to civilization, I won’t even tell you I told you so.

While you’re at it, check out my counterpart at EFF, Scott St. Clair, at his blog (located here). Scott is a great writer and a great friend that I look up to. As a fellow Scot, we have to stick together.

“and we kill wildlife (we literally have hordes of deer where I live alone).”
Thousands of people were killed in WTC, soldiers kill people, too many people die a year in car crashes yet I’m pretty sure you still have neighbors.
Not agreeing with the video or Lynn Harsh but your logic is failing here.

I watched the video. It was lame propaganda. The concern seems valid the delivery almost seems tongue and cheek.

This video, The disappearing Male, presents a viable arguement about why some of the things we are doing are detrimental to the human race, and without talking down to anyone. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7530701744597358451#

Annie is taking important elements of our society and twisting them to the needs of the left – and scaring our children. I am so offended by this faulty information. We need to go to our school boards to see if this is being shown in our families schools. And, if it is, go to the Evergreen Freedom Foundation and ask to see their view to be produced by Lynn Harsh.

Are we living in the USA or Venzeuela??
