Republican Mac Warner, according to a press release, reports that his campaign ended 2009 with a total $40,000 in cash on hand – only $25,000 less than 1st District Congressman Alan Mollohan, D-W.Va.

The Warner Campaign claims to have raised $42,000 within three weeks of starting his campaign, which launched Dec. 14, 2009. The numbers do not show up on the Federal Elections Commission website as of yet.

In a statement from Campaign Manager Meredith Glacken, the donation totals show that Warner is receiving grassroots support.

“As someone who has just entered the political arena, Mac’s fundraising success over the holidays is impressive,” stated Glacken. “People are clearly responding to the message of an outsider who is stepping up to run for Congress to fight the Obama agenda and the radicalization of our government.”

“Our campaign is off to an excellent start thanks to this fundraising success,” added Glacken. “Unlike others in the race who have deep pockets, the backing of the DC establishment and national republicans who think they know better than the people of the 1st congressional district, our campaign will be fueled by grassroots donations; in short, we will have the resources to run a victorious campaign.”

Mollohan ended the year with $64,599 in cash on hand, but still maintains a $130,000 debt. No other campaign reports are listed for fellow Republicans David McKinley, Cindy Hall, Sarah Minear, Thomas Stark, or Patricia Levenson.
